Here is a simple step by step tutorial about how to add an artificial rain effect to your photo through photoshop.

Open the desired image to which you would like to add the rain effect.

File – > Open

Below given is the image that I worked with, this is how it looks before adding the photo shop rain effect to it

Select a new layer by going to the Layers option located at the right hand side of the photoshop window.

Go to Filter – >Render -> Clouds.

Set the Opacity to 63.The opactity option is located at the top right of the layer window..

Go to Filter -> Noise – > Add Noise (you will be able to see lots of grains on your photo now)

We now have to convert these grains in to rain drops, please set the value as given below

Amount should be 60%

Distribution > Gaussian

Check Monochromatic option.

Go to Filter – >Blur – > Motion blur. Motion Blur window opens now. Set the values as below,

Angle  >73

Distance >10

Click Ok.

Now select the blending mode by clicking the drop down menu on top left of the layer window.

Set the blend mode screen to ‘screen’. Now you can see raining effect in your photo.
